It’s about time!

It's about time!

Well, it’s been a very BUSY year! With kidding starting early (we normally breed for late March through April kids) Kara was ‘Desecrated’ by Cronos and kidded on February 21, 2024. Our beautiful girl had Quads! Unfortunately, one was stillborn. Two live Doelings and a buckling. The buckling was sideways and HUGE – I had to assist with delivery. One of the doelings was TINY and we thought we were going to lose her. Lucas and I warmed her in the sink while Wes added hot water every few minutes. Once we got her temperature up to 101.5, she had colostrum (milked from Kara) and we brought her in and fed her every few hours. We all decided that if she lived, she was NEVER going anywhere. Please see pictures of our girl ‘WesCo C Luthien’, and her brother and sister below, and on our Meet Our Herd page. Next to kid was our girl Sansa, she was bred to our boy HJ Summit B Finan, she kidded triplet bucklings on April 6, all three were born healthy and two have already gone to their new herds. Please see below – and if you’re interested in a great addition to your herd, please Contact Us. Athena was bread to our boy Cesare, she kidded on April 9th. Unfortunately it was a very difficult birthing, and we had to assist. Both boys were coming at the same time, one head first, both legs back, the other breech – his legs were coming at the same time as his brother’s head. It’s something that every goat owner dreads, save the doe or save the kids. The choice is always to save the doe. It was a very difficult couple of days, trying to save those boys. Crying Gisela was also bred to Finan, she kidded on April 19th. One buckling and one doeling. Hermione and Haesten, please see their pics below. Both have already been sold. Siggy (Desertnanny GO Carmel Latte) was also bred to Finan. (he’s polled and blue eyed, so is quickly becoming one of our main herd sires.) She kidded April 23rd. A buckling and a doeling. Tristan and Thyra. Tristan has been sold, and we are retaining Thyra. Pics below. That *should* have been it, but we had a few fence breedings! So… If you don’t think those bucks can breed through the fence, think again! Three of our girls decided they liked a certain buck and before we could intervene, the deed had been done!  Believe me, fence breeding HAPPENS! Where there’s a gap in the fence – there’s a willing buck!  Torvi (Desertnanny KT Wanna S’more?) LOVES her boy Thor (Desertnanny DE Dark Frost) and got herself bred on December 11th, 2023, and kidded triplet doelings on May 9th. See Udayati, Ulicia, and Ulyana below. We are retaining Udayati, Ulicia has been sold, and Ulyana is available. This beautiful girl is ADGA and AGS Registerable, has been disbudded and has wonderful Desertnanny bloodlines. Please Contact Us for information on Ulyana. Our boy Finan decided that three girls weren’t enough and got Boudicca and Briseis through the fence (to give him credit, the hussies were flirting right next to his enclosure and between the three of them, tore a hole in the fencing…) so we had two more unplanned breedings. I’m telling you – fence breeding HAPPENS! Boudicca kidded triplet doelings on May 17th. Unfortunately one was breech and upside down. Even with assistance, we lost one – she was born dead.  Crying  The other two doelings were born easily, and are beautiful little girls. We are retaining Calliope, but Ceres is available. See pics below, please Contact Us for info and pedigree on Ceres – she is ADGA and AGS Registerable, Last (but not least) our girl Briseis was bred by Finan on December 31, 2023. She kidded on May 30th, one buckling and one doeling. Little Castiel is a gorgeous chocolate buckskin and is blue eyed and polled, and Calypso is a beautiful little black doeling and is polled. Both are ADGA and AGS registerable, please Contact Us for pedigree info. Just a quick bit of info on our naming conventions – as always if you  buy a goat from us, you have the right to name your kid anything you want on their registration papers (if sold before we register them.) If you’re wondering about the names we choose – we name our does kids at birth with names using the next letter of the alphabet after their name. We have a naming theme of using fantasy, historical, or mythological names. We totally understand if you want to give them a different name – but we love it when our buyers like the names we have given them, and choose to keep them! Thanks to all who have bought kids, and kept their names! We plan to breed 5 does this Fall. We’ll be breeding Artemis, Athena, Brida, Brienne, and Xena. Athena will be bred to our boy Cesare, Artemis will be bred to Finan, Brida will be bred to Apollo, Brienne and Xena will be bred to Thor. Our girl Siggy (Desertnanny GO Carmel Latte) will be retired. Although she is only 4 years old, it looks like she has developed Squamous Cell Carcinoma, so we won’t be breeding her again, and she will get to live out her life as a sassy grandmother on the farm. Please check out our Meet Our Herd page for pictures of all of our 2024 kids. If you have any questions, or are interested in one of our remaining 2024 kids, or would like to inquire about reserving a kid from our 2025 kidding season, please Contact Us.

Update on Homestead Life…

Life on the Homestead...

I haven’t updated the website with news for several months, several things have happened that have kept me very busy and preoccupied. We have been busy making cheese and soap, and fighting some heartbreak (not on our ranch, but a kid we sold was lost in October, and I haven’t had the heart to update about it.) A lot of other things have kept us busy too…

In case you didn’t know it, all three of us are aspiring writers. I’ve been trying to do some editing on my own story, and Lucas’ story. Wes has published 3 short stories on Amazon Kindle – You can check them out here: Wesley Johnson, Surviving LifeWesley Johnson, The Homestead Hit Man : A Rane Sundry StoryWesley Johnson, The Last Hurrah of Cullin Goss

We also have five does bred from this Fall’s breeding: WesCo Kara was bred to our boy WesCo Cronos (he escaped in September – and we weren’t quite quick enough to grab him before he “desecrated” Kara, lol) Kara is due February 21, 2024. We bred our girl WesCo Athena to WesCo Cesare (this breeding was planned!) she is due April 8th or 9th, and our girls WesCo Gisela – due April 15th, Wesco Sansa – due April 4th, and Siggy (Desertnanny GO Carmel Latte) – due April 17th to April 20th – not positive of Siggy’s due date… all three of these girls were bred to our gorgeous proven buck HJ Summit Finan. Please check out our Meet Our Herd page. If you have any questions, or would like to inquire about reserving a kid from our 2024 Spring kidding season, please Contact Us

Dear Mother Nature…

Dear Mother Nature, PLEASE make winter go away! On January 20th, 2023, we had a snow storm that dumped almost 8 inches on us. Today is February 4, 2023. See videos below of the storm and now, 2 weeks later... Did I mention I hate winter?
